Induction of experimental allergic asthma in cat
Authors
Abstract:
19 cats were nper-sensitized to allergic asthma by receiving a concomitant spray ang injection of ovalbumin (10% fresh egg-white in normal saline) every other days for four weeks.then animals were anesthetized and left femoral artery cannulation performed to record atrerial pressure and take blood samples.left femoral vein was cannulated to infuse nutritional fluids and grugs as needed.trachea was intubated for artificial ventilation and induction of experimental asthma by exposing pulmonary airways to allergen.a small perforation was performed in the chest wall between the 4-5 ribs in the right side and a special cannula placed into the pleural space to make a ercird of respiratory rate and plural pressure.the chest then was closed airtight and the animal was left at rest for three hours.experiment then started by spraying 1 ml/kg of allergen into the tracheal tube.at the end of the study the animal was killed by iv injection of saturated KCI,THE LUNG EXTRACTED AND SAVED IN 10% formaldehyde solution for histopathological studie.results of this study indicated that we could induce severe experimental asthma in the cat with clinical symptoms of severe hypoxemia, increased respiratory rate and sallow breathing (250% increase in rate and 64% decrease in pleural pressure as compared to control groyp:n=9, saline induced instead of allergen).pathologic signs of asthma was also observed by seeing air way constriction, distorted shape and presence of eosinophil and lymphocytes in air ways and in pulmonary parencchyma.therefero,it is concluded that with the above technique we could have induce allergic asthma in the cat.

Trace Elements Status in Sera of Patients with Allergic Asthma
Background: Asthma is a multifactorial disease and its severity varies with the inflammatory grade. There are conflicting reports about the roles of trace elements in asthma. This study examined the effects of zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and selenium (Se) concentrations in sera of patients with allergic asthma attending Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran. Methods: Forty-nine patients, aged 10 to 50 y...
full textGeneral overview of fungal allergic asthma
Asthma is a complicated disorder, whose prevalence has increased over the past few decades.Asthma is characterized by infiltration of inflammatory leukocytes along with enhancedproinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Fungi are now far more widely being considered as thedominant extrinsic trigger for asthma. Fungi are linked to the severity of asthma in many ways. Somedifferences between studi...
full textAssociation of ADAM33 gene polymorphisms with allergic asthma
Objective(s): Asthma results from the interaction between genetic and environmental factors. ADAM33 gene on chromosome 20p13 is associated with asthma and airway hyperresponsiveness. Materials and Methods: This is a case-control study, where four SNPs S1 (rs3918396), T1 (rs2280091), T2 (rs2280090), V4 (rs2787094) of ADAM33 gene have been assessed in patients with allergic asthma and normal con...
full textSerum Level of Selenium, IL-4, IL-10 & IFN-g in Patients with Allergic Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis and Healthy Controls
Background: Allergic diseases have increased during the past decade worldwide. Th2 type lymphocyte response is known to play an important role in the process of allergic inflammation. IL-4, a mediator of type II cytokine response increases IgE synthesis and Interferon gamma, a cytokine of type I response interferes with IL-4 and inhibits IgE production. Selenium is an essential component of glu...
